CHANGE (Children, Adolescents, Non-Violence, Groups & Education) programme is part of a national Government funded programme to provide services to children and adolescents who have developed inappropriate behaviour sexual thoughts and act out on those behaviours.
Four facilitators, two of whom are female, provide weekly one hour one to one treatment an two hour group sessions along with many other requirements of the programme including a yearly four day outdoor pursuits wilderness experience. This program is regularly audited and must meet strict international standards.
Referrals are usually from Department of Child Youth & Family Services or Police but families are increasingly directly accessing this service. A full assessment of risk is completed before treatment options are decided and those directed to attend can expect to be in treatment for a minimum of 6 to 18 months.
